I really dislike drones, easily the most dissapointing album of their's.
Dead Inside: is really good, almost as good as madness.
Psycho: is way too cheesy and repetative.
Mercy is just a worst starlight (which I didn't even like that much)
Reapers: is amazing
the Handler: was amazing the first 10 times I heard it, but it became clear to me that the solo dragged on for WAY too long without any deviation.
Defector: is if the word cringe could be a song
Revolt: just plain sucks (the solo does not redeem the song)
Aftermath: is if a yawn could yawn, which was especially dissapointing since i adore the intro
the Globalist: is 4 minutes of boredom, 2 minutes of eargasmic guitars, and then finishing it off with 4 minutes of obligatory album closer ballad that feels pretty tacked on.
Drones: is not a song
Besides the fact that the album contains 2 enjoyable songs, it's also awfully short with only 7,5 songs.

Black Holes & Revelations was one of the unfortunate victims of the loudness war. Just imagine how Knights of Cydonia would sound if it had better production. I can't even imagine something so perfect.

Falling away with you is probably my favorite song!! But I understand your opinion, I extremely love the verses, I don't know it almost feels like Matt is singing to you, the proximity is so strong, I just love the tone of his voice and the authenticity of the song... The chorus is more intense, and I feel like it's a little bit out of place but I still love it with all my heart. I just want to hear a live version of it!! (Or Daniel Ferri's (or yours maybe?! :D)) Anyways, great video, great explanatory as always! Continue like that man!!!

I agreed with everything until you said you liked 'Follow Me' and BH&R being low (it's my favourite/second favourite) but yes, 'Hoodoo' is amazing.
But I totally agree, they're all good, and I find it hard to rank them myself.
As of right now, good to great:
7. The 2nd Law (a bit patchy/cheesy at times)
6. Showbiz (side 2 is patchy)
5. The Resistance (I just don't like it as much as the others, but I still love it, esp. Exogenesis)
4. Drones (Good guitaring, fairly consistent)
3. Origin Of Symmetry (Just lots of good songs)
2. Absolution (Amazing album, I can't really place this one lower than BH&R)
1. Black Holes & Revelations (Amazing album, but it's largely for sentimental reasons that it gets above Absolution)

the main reason why 2nd law isnt last is cuz i love the heck out of explorers. Also, resistance is first becuase unnatural selection is my favourite song of all time, much like how ur favorite song of all time is the handler (its one of my favs too). origin of symmetry is 4th only because i personally dont like feeling good at all. (for oos and absolution, i dont dislike any of the songs)

I have some little issue with half of Showbiz and The 2nd Law. I also don't go back to Drones that much since 2015 when i was obsessed with it (except for The Handler, it deserves all the replays). Origin is my favourite, though I absolutely adore everything about BHAR, Absolution and The Resistance (I Belong To You is one of the best songs i've ever heard, people don't talk about it enough)

my order always changes too but probably:
1. Absolution - the instrumentation is just A+. the strings, the riffs, the harmonies. wow
2. BH&R - atmospheric. musically and lyrically thematic. gives me space cowboy vibes
3. OOS - piano, powerful riffs and lots of energy but some of the songs are a bit too messy for me. hyper music's chorus is really repetitive and I personally don't like the falsetto in micro cuts.
4. Resistance - every song beautiful. but guiding light is kind of boring
5. Drones - some good tracks, some trash (revolt and aftermath (sorry)) some amazing tracks (globalist, handler, psycho)
6. Showbiz - half the songs are genius (sunburn, HTAILY, spiral static) some are awful (Overdue...what even is that song)
7. T2L - supremacy, animals, panic station and survival are the only decent ones IMO

it's so hard to pick an order. resistance is my favorite bc it has some of my favorite muse songs ever, but all of the albums have incredible songs. origin of symmetry is so low bc i'm not a huge fan of most of the songs. maybe i haven't listened to it enough, but although it has some of muse's best songs ever, the whole album as a whole isn't as good as others in my opinion.

I have a major problem with BHAR in how it stands as a complete albums, there are some fantastic tracks but they don't flow well together at all, take a bow to starlight is one of the worst transitions I've heard anywhere, and it disappoints me every time, also why resistance is high on my list, the usoe/guiding light transition is amazing

Honestly, I love all the albums equally. I appreciate all the songs on every album. Sure there are songs I don't play all the time, doesn't mean I don't care for them. Just some you can hit play often and others once in a while and it feels like the first time you heard it. Again, In my opinion, they don't have any "bad" albums. I do cherish Resistance more because it's the first album I ever heard from them, so it means a lot to me. Again, just my opinion.

Suprised that you ranked Drones and The Resistance so high and Blackholes so low. Personally I can't really decide between Blackholes and Origin for the best album as I feel that Origin may have better songs over all but for me Blackholes is just so consistent as an album that it's and absolute beast with all the variation within the album itself. Origin kind of tends to "jump around" with the feeling of the album for me.

I know some people don't rank The Resistance so high, but the masterpieces of Exogensis, United States of Eurasia, and Unnatural Selection really do it for me. This album won them their first Grammy. I struggled with ranking black holes, absolution, and origin but I remember hearing origin for the first time and thinking I was in a different world.

My ranking looks something like this:
7. The Resistance. This just happens to be the one I listen to the least. Not very dynamic or exciting to me, but very listenable from start to finish. Undisclosed Desires is my fave of TR.
6. Showbiz. I agree with most of what you said about it, except I really like Sober. More than Uno even. But yeah, some bona fide classics but not their strongest effort. Fave song is the title track.
5. Drones. When this album first came out I probably would've put it a notch higher. What really holds this one back are the lyrics which aren't nearly as profound as Matt thinks they are. In fact, they're pretty cringy at times. Still, when it rocks it fucking rocks and the album hits more than it misses. Fave song is probably The Handler, but Reapers comes close.
4. The 2nd Law. The dark horse of Muse's discography. The only two songs I really don't care for are Explorers and Save Me. The rest range from the ultimate guilty pleasure, like Survival, to some of the best work they've ever put out, like Animals. My favorite though is Madness. It's the song that got me into them and holds a special place in my heart.
3. Absolution. Pretty perfect honestly. The only thing that bugs me sometimes is the song order. Just feels a little odd. Other than that, I love this album. The orchestral elements are amazing, and Stockholm Syndrome might be their masterpiece. It might be my favorite Muse song ever.
2. Origin of Symmetry. In just one album they went from angsty alt rockers who sound more than a little like Radiohead at times to one of the most unique and exciting bands in the world. Seriously, the first seven tracks are pure perfection, and the rest of the album is no slouch either. The only song I skip is Feeling Good. I just replace it with Futurism. Fave song is Space Dementia.
1. Black Holes and Revelations. Muse at their peak. I think this album is the best example of what Muse is all about. Every song is different and wonderful, with genres ranging from electronica to heavy metal. I love every second of BHaR and will probably continue to listen to it until I die. Favorite song is Map of the Problematique. It's tied with SS for favorite Muse song.

6 - The 2nd Law (great and genius tracks, like Survival, Supremacy, Liquid State, but this is a personal ranking, and I don't exactly love the electronic music so...)
5 - The Resistance (hard choice, I discovered Muse with this album, but I really think the other three are better. Btw Mk Ultra is a great song)
4 - Drones (The Globalist, reapers, the handler... What a great album)
3 - Black Holes And Revelations (Knights of Cydonia is my favorite Muse song ever, Assasin is fantastic and so underrated, and I also love map of the problematique)
2 - Absolution (not so much to say, i love every track from this album except for endlessly)

Great album in terms of the songs but it just doesn’t feel like an album it just doesn’t flow.

I think the album was perfect up until the final 3 songs if the album ended better it would be stronger

It has similar problems that the 2nd law in that it doesn’t flow as well but guiding light, unnatural selection, and mk ultra knock this album up for me.
4. Black holes and revelations
For me its missing that stand out song. If glorious was actually on the album it would bump it up for me.
3. Absolution
The only nitpick I have is the transitions for example the small print into endlessly I just can’t stand but thats so minor.

Unpopular opinion but I love how this album is so in your face. I like every song on here and showbiz is possibly my favorite muse song.

Their lyrics went from cryptic and thought provoking to beat you over the head political. And it’s not even done well. While Drones is an improvement on 2nd Law, I knew there was no going back to old Muse when I heard Psycho. Same sounds as Absolution, but the execution goes beyond bombastic straight into cheese. Origin will always have a special place in my heart. They were my favorite and for a few years.

My top :
1. The 2nd Law (Same as you, I love all the tracks except for Save Me and Big Freeze, I mean, even Unsustainable is not so bad after a few hearings)
2. Showbiz (The first Muse album I ever listened, and I loved the dark atmosphere it creates, you can feel the distress of Matt in it)
3. Black Holes and Revelations (I have listened so many times I can't even count, the only track off of it I don't like is Soldier's Poem)
4. Origin of Symmetry (It's the favorite album of many musers, but even though I love it, I still have difficulties enjoying some tracks of it, like Screenager or Megalomania)
5. Absolution (A beautiful album, it could have been higher, but kinda like you, the first five are more a "more or less great" list, I love how dark it is)
6. Drones (I am completely biased towards this album, I love half of th tracks, and I can't bear the other half, like The Globalist, Revolt, Aftermath...)
7. The Resistance (The first Muse album I ever owned, I used to love it, but then I discovered the other Muse stuff and I changed my mind about it)

My very personal ranking
7. Drones - the return to the more heavy sound on the album is appreciated but sometimes the songs almost felt like more of a parody of muse than actual muse, especially lyrically cause the usual muse themes were there but they were a lot less subtle here. It didn't seem like the album was taking any huge risks and while i enjoy a few like the handler and defector, the album is just kinda a mixed bag.
6. Showbiz - It's possible i need to listen to this album more cause i don't have any huge problems with any of the songs, but the sound of the album is a little bland to me and just feels like generic 90s alt rock in a few spots. Some standouts for me are falling down and unintended and also sunburn and muscle museum feel like a step towards muse's signature sound, but overall, it's obvious Muse was still trying to find their footing and it results in an album i don't listen to very often..
5. The 2nd Law - This album is frustrating to me cause when the album is good, it's REALLY good. It has the fun experimental theatrical songs like survival, supremacy, madness, and even usustainable as well as songs like animals and explorers that feel like muse, but also feel like a refreshing update on their sound. These songs alone make me inclined to rank the album above the previous 2 just because I enjoy them so much and love that muse was taking a few risks that in my opinion, paid off really well. The problems come with songs like follow me, and the 2 chris songs, which were risky, but i felt didn't quite work. Big Freeze and Isolated System I feel are pretty iffy and kinda bring down the album too.
4. Blackholes and Revelations - at this point I think we're at the albums that are pretty much perfect from the start to finish and are a bit harder to rank. I love this album and don't really have any real complaints other than perhaps the sound being a little muddy in spots and i think i may agree that while every song is good, the album is filled with more GOOD songs and not as much GREAT as the higher up albums. Still it all works really well and i think the big standouts are Take a bow, starlight, hoodoo, and Knights of Cydonia of COURSE.
3. The Resistance - I agree that this album is super underrated and as seen in this list, I think it's on the same level as their highly acclaimed albums. This album is overall just a really interesting upgrade on their previous sounds with them sort of embracing their more over the top theatrical side and i think it pays off incredibly well. It's probably their most ambitious album with stuff like the symphony, the arabic sound of united states of eurasia, and straight up singing in french for half of i belong to you. The album has a lot of standouts that i don't really wanna list out all of, but i will agree that guiding light is probably the weakest song on the album, just cause it kinda feels out of place with everything else but nevertheless i feel its a good song.
2. Absolution - Picking between absolution and resistance for these two spots is kinda difficult cause i feel they're two similar albums in that they maintain the signature muse sound but sort of upgrade it as well. This album i think is just a little bit better though because it perfectly mixed the theatrical and classical aspects of muse, while still blending it well with their more heavy sound. Lyrically the album is also really strong and also realling moving in spots like blackout, and falling away with you. It's another album with endless standout tracks and i don't think this one has a single weak spot on it. It'd take forever to talk about everything great about the each song but my favorite song on the album (funny enough) is probably falling away with you, along with close other ones like butterflies and hurricanes, the small print, and fury.
1. Origin of Symmetry - It's everyone's number 1 for a reason. This is IN A WAY, is muse's first REAL album in that it's their first album where we really get a taste of the sound that we'd be seeing on pretty much every proceeding album in some variation. This album i think is perfect in pretty much every aspect. Lyrically the album is so interesting and unique and it's this album where we hear Matt's voice at it's most passionate and elegant and also pretty raw. In general, it's probably muse's most raw sounding album but that doesn't hold some songs back from sounding really epic and grande in scale. The album has the probably the bands most emotionally moving songs with tracks like plug in baby, megalomania, and citizen erased. The album is also their heaviest but still manages to sound very classical and operatic with songs like space dementia, bliss, megalomania, and micro cuts. It's hard to completely articulate just why the album works so well, it just does.
I intended this to be much shorter but soon it just turned into word vomit

I literally JUST started getting into Muse a few weeks ago, so these opinions are bound to alter as soon as I hear the full albums in all their glory, but for now this is my ranking. Also, I should add that I don't think Muse is gonna be a HUGE favorite of mine, so I wouldn't regard Absolution as one of my favorite records of all time or anything. But it does sound pretty great.
