I have a very old staff compass with its' leather pouch. The stitching was giving out. So I sewed it up with brass wire like you received here. It makes durable, metalic stitching but is non ferrous and so harmless to the compass. If you do anything like this, it would be good to have needle nose pliars handy. The ones on the mini multi tools will probably be fine. BTW keep the mini Leatherman or the like with you too. I have advocated having a whistle with you, for years. There has been some real resistence to that idea. So I appreciate Cody's remarks about the whistle.
