I can totally picture being stranded in an emergency situation, and reaching in my pocket to find a tin of sardines and that the kit is at home in the pantry.

I bet you can take the reflective tape ( looks like it's sticky ), apply it to the bottom of the can, use the nail to make a hole and end up with a better signalling mirror.

I particularly liked the end of the video, Cody. Maybe you could create a new video with a compact survival kit you've made yourself. Use an Altoids box or something similar that someone would have access to and fill it with what you feel someone should have in their pack should they find themselves in a survival situation.

Imagine being stranded on an island, you haven't eaten for days, about to collapse from starvation... Then you see a tin can washed up on the beach, you scurry to the can and open it with what little energy you have left. You salivate with anticipation, the thought of a delicious snack that he may have to live on, finally popping the lid off... Only to reveal it was this kit, as you lay down, dropping the can, slowly closing your eyes as you perish from lack of nourishment.

Not bad at all.
The tin could be pounded flat and broken into pieces (via repeated bending, aka metal stress) and used alongside the cordage and a sturdy stick to make a knife or a spear, depending on the situation.
For a more precise knife/scalpel tape the razor blade to the pencil.
Safety pins can be used to close up a big laceration until you get medical help.
They should add two paracetamol (for pain and anti fever medicine) and aspirin (emergency blood thinner and pain medicine), would cost next to nothing and would be useful for minor injuries.

You otta take a day to make your own in an Altoids can for the fun of it. Could be a good way to talk about bare essentials and your personal recommendations on items and brands of various items.

A tobacco tin might be a good idea. They're a bit bigger than an altoid can and they have a seal. My dad would keep various tools and parts in them. I still have a few.

Instead of trying to have one tin to do it all, I like to carry separate specialized tins in a vest. I have one for fire starting, one for first aid, one for fishing, ect. With a good hiking vest you can have everything you need to spend a day or two outdoors.

That brass wire is a good idea. I have a very old staff compass with its' leather pouch. The stitching was giving out. So I sewed it up with brass wire like you received here. It makes durable, metalic stitching but is non ferrous and so harmless to the compass. If you do anything like this, it would be good to have needle nose pliars handy. The ones on the mini multi tools will probably be fine.
BTW keep the mini Leatherman or the like with you too.
I have advocated having a whistle with you, for years. There has been some real resistence to that idea. So I appreciate Cody's remarks about the whistle. My whistle and lanyard are non ferrous so it won't disturb my Silva Ranger compass.

Hi Wranglerstar, there might be a security/privacy issue with this video, seems unnecessary to spill it out here even if probably several others have noticed it as well, but about midways it should be pretty obvious. Tried to PM but doesn't seem to be possible via YT anymore and not even on the Facebook page there's a contact function.
